NearBiew App (Paused)

Led the team and designed a two-sided app to discover local beauty deals nearby.

ROLE

Lead UX/UI Designer

TIMELINE

6 months

TEAM

1 UX/UI Designer, 1 Jr. Developer

PLATFORM

iOS Mobile App

Problem

Consumer

Local beauty customers couldn’t:

  • Find nearby store sales
  • Access a trusted community for beauty store reviews
  • Compare local deals in one place

Retailer

Independent beauty stores lacked:

  • Digital visibility
  • Easy tools to promote local discounts
  • Cost-effective ways to drive foot traffic

Bridging Offline Beauty Retail with Online Discovery

NearBiew connects:

Consumers

discover nearby beauty deals

Retailers

promote local offers and brands

My Role

I led:

  • UX strategy, end-to-end design, and visual branding
  • Monetization flows: ads, tiered subscriptions
  • Design system and UI consistency

I managed:

  • MVP Scope and feature prioritization
  • Collaboration with a UX/UI designer
  • UX–dev handoff with a junior developer

Process

1

Research & Benchmarking

Studied competitors (Yelp, Google Maps, DoorDash) for dual user insights and UX patterns

2

Sitemaps & Flows

Defined app structure, feature hierarchy, and seamless discovery paths.

3

Prototypes

Created low/high-fidelity wireframes and interactive prototypes

4

Visual Design & Branding

Designed UI screens, brand identity, and motion graphics to ensure trust and consistency

5

Handoff & Collaboration

Provided specs and assets for developer implementation of MVP

TYPOGRAPHY

Why the Project Was Paused

MVP timeline expanded

Initial 3-month MVP grew to ~12 months due to added features and scope complexity

AI Market shift

Rapid advancement of AI-driven discovery tools reduced the long-term standalone value of the app concept

Strategic pause

The project was paused before launch to reassess feasibility and market relevance

Reflection

Early in the project, I prioritized visual polish over implementation speed. This experience taught me when to intentionally simplify visuals, focus on core functionality, and ship an MVP on time to validate the product.
