B2B Order App for Retail Customers (Pre-Launch)

MVP B2B app for retail customers to quickly reorder products, integrated with Shopify for speed and simplicity.

ROLE

Lead UX/UI Designer

TIMELINE

3 months (In Progress)

TEAM

1 Jr. Developer

PLATFORM

iOS/Android Mobile App

Problem

Retail customers needed a faster way to reorder products when:

  • Sales staff are absent
  • Products are urgently needed
  • Existing competitor apps offered faster workflows

Challenges included:

  • Tight 3-month deadline
  • Integration with existing Shopify website and POS
  • Maintaining platform consistency without interrupting workflows

Research

Competitive Research + Shopify Insights

  • Competitive research on similar B2B app to improve readability and ordering speed
  • Applied insights from Shopify UI and POS workflows
  • Focused on practical learnings from existing systems due to tight timeline

My Role

MVP Delivery

Designed a mid-to-high fidelity MVP within a tight 3-month window.

Leadership

Managed junior developer workflows and design handoffs.

Strategic Trade-offs

Prioritized ordering speed to meet aggressive deadlines.

Systems Logic

Aligned Shopify POS, B2B web, and app compatibility.

Process

1

MVP Definition

Defined essential refill-ordering workflows based on competitors and existing Shopify systems.

2

Flow & Platform Mapping

Determined which actions belonged in the app versus redirecting users to the B2B website.

3

Mid–High Fidelity Design

Designed functional screens focused on readability and ordering speed using default UI patterns.

4

Build & Iteration

Iterated designs alongside development, adjusting for technical feasibility.

5

System Validation & Testing

Validated app behavior across Shopify POS and B2B website and prepared for testing.

MVP Solution

2 Ways Quick Ordering

Enabled fast refills through barcode scanning from retailer shelves and one-click reordering from order history.

Barcode Scan > Order

Order History > Reorder

Shopify Integration

Synced products, inventory, customer data, and sales in real time, with all retail activity visible in Shopify analytics.

Workflow Trade-offs

Redirected complex actions (order details, order status variations, and address edits) to the existing B2B website due to real-time data complexity and development constraints.

Original Plan (Order Detail on App)

Trade-off (Order Detail on Web)

Minimal UI

Prioritized usability and ordering speed using default UI patterns over visual customization.

Homescreen

Branding

LOGO SYSTEM

Used a logo variation derived from the parent brand to keep a consistent visual identity while differentiating the app.

Parent Brand

ICON BADGE (LIQUID GLASS)

COLOR & TYPOGRAPHY

Applied the existing company brand colors to maintain visual consistency across app and website.

Impact

100%

on-time development milestone

Managed a junior dev and tight scope to meet the 3-month launch deadline.

50%

design time savings

Prioritized MVP logic over custom UI to maximize development and testing phases.

0%

data disruption

Designed tagging rules to sync Shopify data without breaking POS or Website logic.

Reflection

This project reinforced the importance of balancing design and implementation under tight deadlines. Making smart trade-offs by leveraging existing platforms and aligning system logic was key to keeping the B2B app shippable. We are currently in the QA testing phase and plan to launch in March.
